Group rides in Glasgow, 08 and 11 October

If you’re free, there are two group rides in Glasgow this week that should be entertaining.

Part of the Colleges Route in Glasgow

Space4cycling Glasgow (a fledgling campaign, about which much more later) have the second of their infrastructure tours this Thursday evening.

We’ll be leaving from the concert hall steps (so the top of Buchanan St) at 1830 and trying out the Colleges Route which runs towards the west end. The glossy GCC brochure is here; come along and see if it lives up to the hype.

Look for a bike with a wooden box on the front (mine), or a bike with a big flower on the handlebars (not mine).

The Facebook event is here.

The (now connected) bridge to nowhere

Another campaign that’s so new it gleams is We Walk, We Cycle, We Vote. It’s targeting the 2016 Holyrood elections, and you can probably guess the objectives.

They’ve set up a ride to tie in with the Green Party conference at the SECC, demoing some of Glasgow’s delightful cycling infrastructure to all the delegates that can be persuaded to get on a bike.

Leeds got 200 folk when they ran something similar, so it might be quite a big event.

That’s this Sunday, leaving from the SECC at 1230. Again, if you want to say hello I’ll be on the bike with the wooden box (and probably also a child seat and fetching red and yellow streamer).

Hopefully see you there!

(If the thought of seeing my cheerful face isn’t incentive enough, you might also find a handy new shortcut. Glasgow does have some decent bits of cycling infrastructure; it’s just well hidden…)
